It's a week-long event that draws 90,000+ people to an island that's barely 4 miles long. As you might guess from the name, Fantasy Fest is all about costumes and, well, fantasy. It's a decidedly adult party and costumes tend towards the naughty and revealing end of the spectrum.
It's not completely unlike Mardi Gras, only cleaner and with far fewer rednecks. Here is the first batch of my pictures from Fantasy Fest 2012.
Be warned, many of these pictures are not suitable for children and should not be viewed from work. You may see things you would wish to un-see including nudity and less-than-perfect bodies. Please govern yourself accordingly.

I'll start with this foursome in the hopes that they might stumble across the pic. They are FF regulars and I recognized them from years past. If one wanted to search through the 2000+ pics on this site, at least a few other pictures of them could be found, often in great costumes and paint.

This is Harry, one of our housemates for the week. We'll be seeing more of him. :)

It's Monday, but already the sidewalks are crowded and people are getting into the spirit.

Hot girls on bicycles. Enough said.

There's Harry again. Harry spent much of the week applying temporary tattoos to girl's bodies. What a hobby!

Forgive them the frilly bits, it was tutu night.

And there's Harry, at it again, and who can blame him?

The tattoos are from Bare Necessities Tour and Travel. They specialize in clothing optional cruises and we highly recommend them.

Not all costumes are scanty, sexual, or painted. In fact, there were a lot of great outfits that would be welcome at any Halloween party.

Tuesday is plaid night.

I didn't paint very much this year, but I did do this painted lacy top on another of our housemates. It was a big hit on the street.

Super Waldo! Lucy found him!

Dancing in the street.

Outstanding paint. We asked her who did the work and the answer was Pashur. An amazing artist.

Lucy painted me that night, as well. Here we are taking a break in Cowboy Bill's. I think I might still have some blue makeup in my ear.

Cowboy Bill's had a painter of their own. Actually, just about every bar and many of the t-shirt shops had their own painter. It's quite a difference from our first visit 11 years ago.

Many of the bars put on events during the week. As befitting a biker bar, Hog's Breath had amateur girls dancing on stage for the crowd.

Nice paint!

Again, not all costumes involve paint. I particularly like groups who dress in a theme.

I painted again a couple nights later.

Nice paint on an even nicer canvas is the hallmark of Fantasy Fest. Here are a few more.

Again, a group painted alike is always fun.

Awesome.

Is there anything better than people having a great time?

This lady looks very familiar. I believe she's another regular that I could find other pictures of if I looked. Edit: Found her! Two great pictures from Fantasy Fest 2009 here and here. She has some great costumes, I'd love to see what we've missed over the years!

And to end, a group of fantastically painted guys. More to come in Part 2!
