European Vacation 2015 - Planning

In December I began planning for a long European vacation that would happen in June or July. I only had an outline of a plan.

- - Vacation should last approximately one month.
I figured a month was about as long as I could reasonably take away from my job. Since a big part of the expense of this vacation was going to be airfare to and from Europe, it seemed reasonable to stay as long as possible once we were there.

- - London was a 'must' destination.
We have good friends who live in Emsworth, UK and they had offered to put us up for at least a couple nights and show us around. Neither of us had ever visited the UK and London seemed like a great destination that would also let us spend some time with our friends.

- - Desire a mix of big city, mountains, and beach.
A month seemed like a long enough time to enjoy a nice bit of several things. My original vision was four major stops, with two cities, the beach on the French Riviera, and some time in the Alps.

- - Desire apartment rentals over hotel rooms.
We didn't want to have to organize laundry excursions so this was primarily for a washing machine. It was also so we could have some combination of better views and/or locations and also more space than the typical hotel room.

2013 His/Hers/Ours Road Trip - His

Our big road trip of 2013 was a His, Hers, and Ours affair. Here are the "His" pics. Stay tuned for at least a couple more big posts.

Somewhere up the road from Cherokee, NC is the start of the Blue Ridge Parkway, a 476 mile road that meanders through the Smoky and Blue Ridge Mountains. Somewhere up a different road from Cherokee, NC are these beautiful falls. I had got lost looking for the beginning of the parkway and found this instead. A happy accident to start the trip!

Carl's Navy Cruise Album

Carl was dad's older brother. I found this wonderful old leather bound album in a chest full of navy and Cessna memorabilia.

Fantasy Fest 2012 - Part 1 (of 3)

Fantasy Fest is Halloween in Key West, and is the Best Party Ever!

It's a week-long event that draws 90,000+ people to an island that's barely 4 miles long. As you might guess from the name, Fantasy Fest is all about costumes and, well, fantasy. It's a decidedly adult party and costumes tend towards the naughty and revealing end of the spectrum.

It's not completely unlike Mardi Gras, only cleaner and with far fewer rednecks. Here is the first batch of my pictures from Fantasy Fest 2012.

Mississippi River Tour - Day 4

It's Day 4, the last day, and I'm rushing madly to the finish line! Okay, not madly, I was traveling about 1 MPH upriver on a ferry boat to the conclusion of the Mississippi River Tour.

It was a gentle end to a delightfully casual trip.

Day 3 started with a 100+ mile drive from Greenville MS to Helena. I stayed on the east (Mississippi) side of the river for this leg. Click through for my pictures and stories from Day 3.
